Como cada año, la temporada de anidación de tortugas marinas ha comenzado en la costa del Pacífico mexicano. Al tratarse de especies en peligro de extinción -como las tortugas golfinas, carey y laúd- Puerto Vallarta cuenta con programas de conservación de estos legendarios reptiles.
Algunos hoteles de la bahía, como Marriott y Hyatt, tienen sus propios campamentos tortugueros donde se protegen los nidos hasta la eclosión de los huevos. Una vez que ocurre, ofrecen a sus huéspedes la experiencia de acompañar a las tortuguitas recién nacidas hasta la orilla del mar para que inicien su aventura en el vasto océano.
Las liberaciones de tortugas son gratuitas, abiertas al público en general y se llevan a cabo en las horas previas al atardecer durante el verano y el otoño.
Turtle Nesting Season Has Begun in Puerto Vallarta
From July to December, turtle camps and various hotels release hundreds of baby sea turtles.
Like every year, the sea turtle nesting season has begun on the Mexican Pacific coast. As these are endangered species -such as olive ridley, hawksbill and leatherback turtles- Puerto Vallarta has conservation programs for these legendary reptiles.
Some hotels in the bay, such as Marriott and Hyatt, have their own turtle camps where the nests are protected until the eggs hatch. Once it happens, they offer their guests the experience of accompanying the newborn hatchlings to the seashore to begin their adventure in the vast ocean.
Turtle releases are free, open to the general public, and are carried on in the hours before sunset during the summer and fall.
